Warped Tour 2018 Phoenix: A Final Farewell

My final Warped Tour began with waiting in the shade to preserve what little energy I had. While waiting in line, I had one specific realization: I should’ve retired years ago. I was getting too old for this. Once I found the one and only Lisa Johnson, Rock Photographer, the day commenced. This is my second year taking her TEI: Life in the Pit class. Trashboat was the first band we all shot. They put on an energetic performance and everyone went absolutely wild. For those who

The Adventures of Kesha and Macklemore in Phoenix, Arizona

On June 6, 2018, many patient fans awaited outside of the gates at Ak-Chin Pavilion in Phoenix, Arizona, awaiting to see what will be one of the most fun and unique shows they will encounter. With a soft sung intro of Kesha’s 2010 hit ‘Tik Tok’ slowly leading into her 2017 release of ‘Woman’, the night commenced. As the queen herself emerged from her neon spaceship placed carefully on stage, dressed head-to-toe in sparkles, the crowd expected nothing less. Kesha began her set

Women's March 2018: March to the Polls Phoenix

At precisely eleven AM on January 21, 2018, men, women and children joined together to initiate the 2018 Women’s March at the Arizona State Capitol building. This year, the cause was back with “March to the Polls”. This is a women-led movement, but encourages anyone and everyone to come out and march. The purpose of this march was to advocate for women in office. Many guest speakers such as Laila Ikram, told their stories, and spoke their truth. Women around the nation in var

REVIEW | Marina City Release New EP ‘Terminal’

The Chicago-based Pop band Marina City is back with the release of their latest EP, Terminal. If you haven’t heard these guys, they sound a lot like later Fall Out Boy with a new twist. Frontman Ryan Argast hits those especially hard high notes like Patrick Stump while being backed by softer instrumentals. After their previous successes, such as winning Battle of the Bands in 2015, many people were expecting something new and fresh, and that is exactly what they gave us. With

They are punk rockers from Greece who truly enforce their roots and how they have shaped the band over the years. Rub My Mind is their latest release. After following a very successful few albums such as Slit, there were very high expectations from their audience. Rub My Mind opens wi

Life in the Pit: My First Warped Tour Press Experience with Lisa Johnson.

Mickey Johnson and Shawna Potter of War On Women - Watch the Interview I guess to really start off this article, I must give a complete background of myself and the music that shaped me as a person. I was raised primarily on Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, and Green Day with my dad, and country with my mom. I briefly went through a One Direction phase, but we don’t need to talk about that. I fell in love with My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy when I was twelve and that is when it al

    Warped by the Heat

The old adage of “getting there early to get a good place in line” didn’t entirely hold true for Warped Tour Phoenix 2017. We got there a little after 8 am and were hoping to get a jump on the crowd. What we found was a growing line of cars parked along 99th Avenue in front of a locked gate. The temperature was already approaching 100°, and they weren’t letting us in. Even worse, kids walking down the path to check out what was going on were being turned back. Our air con

An Evening Full of Guitars, Drums and...Silk Stockings?

For anyone that lives in Arizona, we know how hot the summers can be. We also know how serious we are about our concerts and supporting all types of music, despite the deadly heat conditions. On June 16, 2017, 51 West Coffee shop in Tempe hosted one of their famous after hour’s shows. One of the highlights of the night, was the band Silk Stockings. Silk Stockings is a two piece band consisting of members Asa Borowicz on guitar and Sheldon Meyer on drums. They are a Noise/Expe

Pop Punk in the Desert: New Beginnings with Old Friends

When we think Pop Punk, we think khaki shorts, empty pizza boxes, and having a good time with your friends. This is exactly what Phoenix based, Pop Punk band, Innocent Elaine embodies. The first time I saw this band was at Arizona Bike Week 2017 on April 8 at WestWorld of Scottsdale. I remember being super blown away with the way they presented themselves on stage. The members of this band consist of Jay Norton (lead guitar/lead vocals), Colton Harrison (bass guitar/vocals),
