    The Last Arizona Warped Tour

June 28th, 2018 was the final Arizona Warped Tour. After 24 years it was finally coming to an end. People came out from all over the state to celebrate the final Vans Warped Tour. The fans were all lined up in the morning eager to get into the venue. Musicians, brands, and charities were walking up and down the lines, talking to anyone that would listen. The sun was beating down but that didn’t take away anyone’s excitement. The gates opened and early entry was let into the a

Warped Tour 2018 Phoenix: A Final Farewell

My final Warped Tour began with waiting in the shade to preserve what little energy I had. While waiting in line, I had one specific realization: I should’ve retired years ago. I was getting too old for this. Once I found the one and only Lisa Johnson, Rock Photographer, the day commenced. This is my second year taking her TEI: Life in the Pit class. Trashboat was the first band we all shot. They put on an energetic performance and everyone went absolutely wild. For those who

    Warped Tour 2018 Overview

After 24 years of good music and even better memories, the Vans Warped Tour begins its final full cross-country tour this week. Photos by Kiya Gaskin Warped Tour began in 1995, although it wasn’t just music. It included Skate competitions and even wrestling. The genres have changed quite significantly throughout the years. Bands such as Sublime, No Doubt, NOFX, Blink 182 and Reel Big Fish were some of the very first headliners, eventually evolving into Eminem and Katy Perry,

    Sundressed: Phoenix is Family

It's Friday, June 1st at the famous Rebel Lounge in Phoenix, Arizona, the venue doors were open and cars were already wrapped around the block. Fortunately, there was no line outside the venue because the friendly staff is incredibly efficient. The air was abuzz with excitement. At first glance, a majority of the patrons were in the back, drinking at the bar, chatting at the high-tops. There was a nice mix of both young and old in the crowd tonight. INSTRUCTIONS First up, Ins

    The Worthy Cause--Through Cosplay

Here's a local Phoenix company that needs to go big. I'm not kidding--this is a service that does such wonderful things for kids that you need to check them out right now and figure out what you can do to help them. The concept of this 501(c)(3) organization is simple--to help relieve the suffering of kids in hospitals by giving them donated comic books or by having people dressed as superheroes visiting them in hospitals. Even worse than being sick with a serious illness or

    Warped by the Heat

The old adage of “getting there early to get a good place in line” didn’t entirely hold true for Warped Tour Phoenix 2017. We got there a little after 8 am and were hoping to get a jump on the crowd. What we found was a growing line of cars parked along 99th Avenue in front of a locked gate. The temperature was already approaching 100°, and they weren’t letting us in. Even worse, kids walking down the path to check out what was going on were being turned back. Our air con

Creating a Safer Scene with Shawna Potter

Llantera LP – Stinkeye's Next Fattie

Used to be, not that long ago, kids would listen to music like this, pass the joint around, and dance. Now, kids are listening to this band, passing the joint around, and moshing. It shows that Psychedelia, or “Hash Rock”, as Stinkeye frontman Andrew Hosley puts it, it is still as relevant and timeless as it has ever been. I first caught up with Stinkeye completely by accident back in November of last year when they opened for Nik Turner (of Hawkwind) and Hedersleben in the
