Warped Tour 2018 Tinley Park: Heavy Rain, Even Heavier Music

For 24 years, punk rock summer camp brought misfits, strays, and losers together for a whirlwind of loud music and zero judgement. Like all things we find enjoyable, Warped Tour is ending. Gone is one of the biggest staples in alternative music. But Warped didn’t go down without one last hurrah in Chicago. 21,000 people showed up to the sold out Tinley Park day of Warped Tour. In all my years at Warped Tour, it has never rained at the Chicago date. I guess the universe has be

Warped In Reverse: Being as an Ocean

Warped in Reverse—warping back to Vans Warped Tour 2017! Series #7 Being As An Ocean was one of the best bands on the 2017 Vans Warped Tour. One minute fans were screaming, the next minute they were crying. But it was a welcomed roller coaster of emotions. The band is known for its melodic hardcore music. Being As An Ocean has a unique sound quality that makes all of their music easily identifiable. It’s not quite spoken word, but not completely unclean vocal either, which se

    Warped Tour 2018 Overview

After 24 years of good music and even better memories, the Vans Warped Tour begins its final full cross-country tour this week. Photos by Kiya Gaskin Warped Tour began in 1995, although it wasn’t just music. It included Skate competitions and even wrestling. The genres have changed quite significantly throughout the years. Bands such as Sublime, No Doubt, NOFX, Blink 182 and Reel Big Fish were some of the very first headliners, eventually evolving into Eminem and Katy Perry,

Here’s Looking at You, Warped Tour

Let’s be real. Warped Tour sucks. Before you stop reading, hear me out. We wake up at the crack of dawn to arrive three to four hours early to the venue. If you’re lucky, it’s below 100 degrees. If you’re not, well, rest in peace. By 9 a.m., people are dropping like flies. Surviving until gates open is a privilege. Granted you don’t pass out before the doors open, you rush inside only to find out none of the stages are where you thought they’d be. The gigantic inflatable sche

Shawna Potter's Creating Safer Spaces Workshop | Vans Warped Tour 2017

Shawna Potter’s Creating Safer Spaces TEI Workshop highlighted the importance of fighting against harassment. Its main goal is to make venues a safer place for concert goers, artists, and stage crew. Safer Scenes is not specifically for women, though it has resources for women, it is also for men and Tour Press Force was glad to see men in audience. Tour Press Force really liked how Potter interacted with the audience and molded her workshop to how we are involved in the musi

    Welcome To The Dark Side....

Let me give you a brief example of how my day at 2017 Vans Warped Tour [SAN DIEGO 8.5.17] went… There were a ton of hair flipping, head-banging, air punching, crowd surfing, music playing all while boiling in the sun! lol First up was Lisa Johnson’s Life In The Pit: The Rock Photographer Experience TEI Workshop. Instantly, I went from checking in to now heading towards heavens of all heaven…the pit (dun dun dun). First up of the day was a Rock/Experimental band from Cranberry

    Warped Tour Recap: Tinley Park

Storms cleared just in time for Warped Tour, but that did not stop the show from being chaotic. July 22 was supposed to be chock-full of rain, lightning, and high winds, but the exact opposite occurred. Piercing UV rays and blinding sunshine is what Chicago got. Walking in, the first noticeable thing is how difficult Warped Tour is to navigate. Everyone is in a rush, and no one knows where they are going. It would be so hilarious if the panic of not knowing if you are going t

    Warped by the Heat

The old adage of “getting there early to get a good place in line” didn’t entirely hold true for Warped Tour Phoenix 2017. We got there a little after 8 am and were hoping to get a jump on the crowd. What we found was a growing line of cars parked along 99th Avenue in front of a locked gate. The temperature was already approaching 100°, and they weren’t letting us in. Even worse, kids walking down the path to check out what was going on were being turned back. Our air con

Creating a Safer Scene with Shawna Potter

When the 2017 Vans Warped Tour stopped in gruesomely hot Phoenix, AZ on June 22, TPF caught up with Shawna Potter to discuss how she is making a difference with her TEI workshop. Shawna Potter is the lead singer of the Hardcore band War On Women. War On Women use their platform to promote feminism and discuss social issues. With her TEI workshop “Creating Safer Spaces; You Have the Power to Shape Your Scene”, Potter is helping festival-goers learn about and promote feminism,

Chaos and Metalcore Mayhem Engulfed the Rialto Theatre
