Cane Hill Interview – Everyone Says That the Good Die Young

Interview by Cosmic-A (Monica Demattei) | Photography & Videography by Nahnalah_G

"If you haven't already retired by the time you're 35 years old, then you haven't done enough...", says Witt. At that moment I laughed, now as I reflect back on his statement and the visual of his raised brows, perhaps that statement was a depiction of the lyrical phrasing of “Fountain of Youth” and the indelible script across his throat. After all, I had just commented about a woman who had blown herself drinking.

Last we met up with the aggressive New Orleans four-piece Nu Metal band Cane Hill was at Vans Warped Tour 2016 at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, NV. You can check out the interview we did last summer with frontman Elijah Witt featured on our Warped In Reverse Wednesdays series, Episode #5 here!

This time around we sat down with Witt, Ryan Henriquez (Bass), and Devin Clark (Drums) before their set (Guitarist,James Barnett was not available at the time of the interview.) during the Let's Get Abducted Winter Tour 2017 down in Tucson at the Rialto Theatre. Check out our review of the tour! This tour run featured Cane Hill with Attila and Bad Omens. New Years Day dropped from the bill due to an injury, while Vesta Collide filled in the rest of the tour. See the interview we did with Vesta Collide on their previous tour!

Some may say our topics of discussion were somewhat explosive and taboo. We touched on some of their European experiences involving altered states and the dangers of foreign fast food, as well as addressing serious issues related to the abusive treatment of women—the premise behind their single “St. Veronica,” and their future album.

They released their debut full length studio album, Smile on July 15, 2016 via Rise Records. Get their merch here!

Cane Hill recently played 420 Fest in Fort Worth, TX. Visit www.wearecanehill.com and scroll down the page to get their tour date details.
