Warped Tour: Phoenix

1 Day. 7 Stages. Over 60 bands. The 2017 Vans Warped Tour heads to Phoenix during its first full week of shows, and it is sure to be a banger. Although the heat of the southwestern desert will definitely be skin melting, throngs of fans – young and old – will be brought together for 10 hours to share their love for music.

Big headliners for this year’s tour are: Neck Deep, Attila, CKY and Memphis May Fire. In addition to the artist from Warped Tour’s main genres Punk and Metal, there are quite a few musicians from outside those genres this year at the festival. Watsky is a Rap artist, Sammy Adams is known for his Electronic Rap/Hip Hop style, and American Authors are a mainstream Alternative band.

A few bands from the Phoenix area will be taking the stage next week, including Playboy Manbaby and Doll Skin.

Playboy Manbaby is a Post-Funk group. They have the unique sound of Robbie Pfeffer’s animated vocals layered over the jazziness of a sax and trumpet, with the sounds of the classic drums, bass, and guitar. Their commentary and musical style are an acquired taste, but they are always entertaining. Check out their latest Official Music Video “Cheap Wine”.

All-female quartet Doll Skin will be spreading their girl power and domination at the show. Although they are young, these girls are taking the Rock world by storm. Their authentic sounds and impeccable instrumentation make them a must-see band during the tour.

The Ernie Ball Play Warped Tour Contest Winner for Phoenix was Colten Hood. Hood is from Gilbert, AZ. Colten Hood is unlike most artists at Warped Tour; he is a singer-songwriter with a Pop and R & B style. Just because he is different than most musicians playing, do not count him out. Let his music do the talking.

By winning the contest, Hood will be playing the mainstage at the Phoenix festival, and he is in the running for some cool prizes. Check out the interview we did with Hood a few days after he was announce winner.

Show support for the local music scene and check out all three of these acts during the day.

In addition to watching bands play, there are plenty of TEI workshops that concert-goers can be a part of.

TEI workshops are a series of classes festival-goers can take during the day to learning about the music business or an artform from some of the festival musicians.

There are a variety of music related workshops to participate in. Members of Neck Deep will be giving drum and guitar classes. Hands Like Houses are doing a workshop on how to develop a unique personality in the music business.

Want a break from the music? Woody Woodrow of Our Last Night will be leading a yoga workshop. Shawna Potter is doing a working shop about creating safe spaces. Also, Chad Long will be leading a workshop on screen printing.

Tickets for each workshop are $25 and can be purchased from the TEI Website. In order to attend the workshops, a valid Warped Tour ticket must also be purchased.

Warped Tour hits Phoenix on June 22. It is being held at the Fear Farm Festival Grounds. Doors open at 11 a.m. Tickets can be bought online or in a local Journeys store. Want to get hyped up before the show? Listen to the Warped Tour Mixtape on Pandora to hear songs from all the musicians playing this summer. It’s been a long time coming, but Warped Tour is finally here.
